AEO Certification
In order to respond to security concerns relating to the international trade in goods, the European Commission presented a series of measures designed to provide a coordinated and effective response.
One of the main elements is the creation of the AEO concept.
On the basis of Article 5a of the security amendments, Member States can grant the AEO status to any economic operator meeting the following common criteria: customs compliance, appropriate record-keeping, financial solvency and, where relevant, security and safety standards.
The status of authorised economic operator granted by one Member State is recognised by the other Member States. This does not automatically allow them to benefit from simplifications provided for in the customs rules in the other Member States. However, other Member States should grant the use of simplifications to authorised economic operators if they meet specific requirements.
When responding to customs and security commitments, the AEO company deserves easings and simplifications within its international supply chain ; as :
· Less physics and documentary controls
· Easier access to customs simplifications
· Less datas for summary declarations (ICS and ECS)
· Pre-notification in case of control
· Priority processing in case of control
· You can choose the place of control
The AEO status is highly recommended for companies developping an international activity, wih no regards to their size.
There are three status :
-
Customs
-
Security
-
Full
The AEO status is permanent. Nevertheless, the Customs institute regular audits.
